Dear colleagues, We would appreciate receiving your feedback on a new report UNICEF released today "Tracking Progress on Child and Maternal Nutrition: a Survival and Development Priority". The report can be downloaded here: http://www.unicef.org/publications/index_51656.html This report presents recent survey-based data on global prevalence of undernutrition (stunting, wasting, and underweight) and highlights in particular the problem of stunting, which has prevalence rates significantly higher than underweight rates (approximately 195 million children under the age of 5 are affected by stunting, and about 129 million children are underweight). What we think you will find particularly useful in the report are country nutrition profiles for the 24 countries where 80 per cent of the world's stunted children live. These contain the most recent data on the prevalence of undernutrition, coverage of key interventions, information on policies, as well as nutrition-related health, water and sanitation indicators. Also included are evidence-based interventions that prevent stunting and success stories from countries where interventions reached targeted populations on a large scale. Your expert feedback would be most appreciated. Thanks, Antonia Antonopoulos UNICEF, New York |
